Toshiba Exec: Microsoft Confused Consumers Over Windows 8, RT

Microsoft has already taken a lot of flak over Windows 8, predominantly over its new design aesthetic. But more and more PC makers are lining up to point the finger at the software giant over its own marketing strategy.

At a product launch in Sydney, Toshiba Australia managing director Mark Whittard launched a ground-assault against Microsoft's marketing strategy, reports The Australian, claiming the software giant caused a "lot of confusion with Windows 8" with Intel-based machines and ARM-based machines.

Toshiba to Expand Tablet Offerings in the US this Year

Toshiba plans to expand its tablet offerings in the U.S. later this year as it explores more screen sizes and price points. The company will introduce new Windows 8 and Android tablets at multiple price ranges in the U.S., said Carl Pinto, vice president of marketing at Toshiba America Information Systems, during a press event on Thursday evening in New York City.

One of the new tablets will be shown at the Google I/O show, Pinto said. Google I/O is Google's developer event and will be held between March 15 and 17

Microsoft Store Slashes Prices on Windows 8 Tablets, Hybrids

In what could be a sign of things to come, the Microsoft Store is slashing prices on a variety of hybrid laptop-tablet models.

These could be just run-of-the-mill price reductions on models that aren't moving. Or a sign of something more serious.

On that latter point, IDC analyst Bob O'Donnell told CNET last month that Windows 8 PC sales are "horribly stalled."

And IDC said in March that it expects computer shipments to drop 1.3 percent this year, worse than its prior view for a 2.8 percent rise.
