Big Black

On Black Friday, 58 percent of U.S. shoppers bought some type of consumer electronics, making it the second most-popular product category behind clothes.

The consumer electronics retail sector posted big numbers on Black Friday, thanks to big demand for TVs, as well as mp3s, computers and GPS systems. That’s according to the research firm ShopperTrak RCT Corp., as quoted by the Associated Press. According to the statistics, which measure sales at mall-based stores, overall sales reached nearly $9 billion, a six percent jump from the same day last year. This came despite forecasts which had predicted the weakest Black Friday in years. ShopperTrak also found that customers were lured to stores largely by specials on TVs, and that significantly discounted items had mostly sold out by noon
