Core Brands announced Friday that it will embark on a 48-city tour this summer to showcase its brands nationwide. The tour, in June and July, will showcase the ELAN, Niles, Furman, SpeakerCraft, Panamax, Sunfire, BlueBOLT, and Xantech brands.

A federal judge has ruled that Whirlpool can change benefits for about 3,000 people who had retired from Maytag. Whirlpool bought Maytag in 2006 later closed the Maytag corporate headquarters and a factory in Newton. Whirlpool had said it wanted to change the retirees' medical benefits to bring them in line with current Whirlpool employees. Des Moines television station WHO reports that Whirlpool is expected to drop prescription drug and other medical benefits for the retirees. Local 997 retirees chairman Larry Shaver says the union is considering an appeal.

The Maytag v. United Auto Workers et al. bench trial regarding retiree benefits wrapped up on Tuesday in Des Moines and now awaits a decision.

At issue is whether Whirlpool can alter the health benefits of Maytag retirees who were granted lifetime health benefits

Prior to the conclusion of the trial, lawyers for the UAW filed a motion seeking a judgment in their favor and motion has been taken under advisement.
