Best Buy said Tuesday it is discontinuing Twelpforce, a Twitter-based tech support initiative it launched nearly four years ago.

Twelpforce used a team of more than 3,000 registered Best Buy employees and Geek Squad agents to answer customers' questions in 140 characters or less via the @twelpforce handle. Over the years, the account sent more than 65,000 tweets.

Now, much of that activity will be shifted to its Best Buy Unboxed online community. Best Buy also will maintain a Twitter presence through its @BestBuy, @BestBuySupport and @GeekSquad accounts.
