The first North American commercial deployment of HDTV over IPTV lines will happen in Canada with the launch of a new service by SaskTel. The company will offer 27 channels under the brand Max HD. SaskTel is spending $136.5 million this year and another $310 million over the next five years on its Next Generation Access Infrastructure, which is the network upgrade that will lay the fiber optic cable necessary to see this project to completion. Aiding in the broadband management of this rollout is 2Wire, who will be providing its HomePortal 3700HGV residential gateway and hosting its Commonent Management System.
