Bert Nordberg

BlackBerry, a week after unveiling a new smartphone lineup, bolstered its board by adding former executives from Verizon Communications Inc. and Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB.

Dick Lynch, a retired executive video president of Verizon, and Bert Nordberg, the former chief executive officer at Sony Ericsson, will bring the board to 12 members, Waterloo, Ontario- based BlackBerry said today in a statement.

Sony Ericsson’s CEO Bert Nordberg recently sat down for an interview with The Wall Street Journal during which he said his company “should have taken the iPhone more seriously when it arrived in 2007. Norgberg reiterated Sony Ericsson’s intentions to dissolve its feature phone business by the middle of next year as it focuses more on building out Android and broadening its U.S. portfolio. “By now, some 70% of our sales stem from smartphones and some time in the middle of next year, I estimate that we will be a complete smartphone company,” he said.
