The burgeoning GPS sector will grow to 900 million units by 2013, as prices continue to fall and the devices themselves improve. That’s according to a survey last week by ABI Research. “Personal Navigation Devices for in-car use will be increasingly complemented by converged solutions based on GPS-enabled handsets for pedestrian navigation and Location Based Services,” ABI Research principal analyst Dominique Bonte said in a statement issued along with the study. Such innovations soon to come to GPS devices, ABI predicted, will include ways to pay tolls with a GPS device, mobile social-networking services, and “geo-tagging of pictures taken with digital cameras.”
