BJ's Wholesale, which operates 178 membership stores in 15 states, announced that Laura Sen has been promoted to chief executive officer. Sen, who had been president and COO, will retain the title of president of the Natick, Mass.-based company.

Mike Wedge, president and chief executive officer of BJ’s Wholesale Club, announced his resignation today. Taking over as interim CEO will be Herb Zarkin, chairman of the retailer’s board of directors, while the board searches for a new CEO. In a statement attributed to both Wedge and Zarkin it was said, “While the company has made great strides in its efforts to improve general merchandise sales and customer traffic, overall progress has not come as quickly as we had hoped and expected.
