Describe your current role.
I’m the CEO of Standard AI, the world’s leading computer vision company.

What accomplishment(s) are you most proud of?
The moment the first public shopper received an accurate receipt in minutes using the Standard platform. We started Standard with a vision to use computer vision to change the way the world shops. When we opened our first retail store in 2019, it was the culmination of years of endless work from dozens of people across the company.

What do you like best about your job?
I love working with our team to solve really hard problems — often, things that have never been done before.

What technology are you most excited about at the moment?
Computer Vision — which might not surprise you 🙂 Cameras that can see and understand what’s happening in a physical space will transform what’s possible in the physical world. We saw widespread disruption in digital, and the physical world is next. Retail will be the first industry to experience this widespread disruption, followed by manufacturing, offices, gyms, etc.

Who in the CE or technology industry do you look up to, and why?
I draw inspiration from a number of leaders in tech. It might seem obvious, but Elon Musk has been a source of inspiration for us. From taking electric cars mainstream to sending people into space, I am drawn to his bold vision to change the world for the better and his commitment to sustainability and protecting the planet.

What career advice would you give to people just getting started in the CE or technology industry?
We’ll see AL/ML disrupt pretty much all aspects of our lives. Whether you’re a machine learning engineer or a business leader, take the time to understand the implications of AI — the opportunities, challenges, and threats.

What, in your opinion, is necessary for the CE/technology industry to thrive in the next five years?
Trust. As a tech community, we have a duty to ensure that AI and machine learning is rolled out in a responsible way that benefits all people.
