Maria Cantwell

Several members of Congress have expressed concern that the digital TV transition, scheduled for 18 months from now, will be a “train wreck,” and have asked for more government assistance to help customers, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday. During Senate hearings Thursday, Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) told FCC and Commerce Department officials that there is “high potential for a train wreck” with the turnoff of analog schedules, scheduled for Feb. 18, 2009. At issue was what will happen to customers who do not subscribe to either cable or satellite TV, and will not be able to use converter boxes after the transition.
