Hewlett-Packard Co on Wednesday named executive search firm Spencer Stuart to lead the search for a new chief executive following the stunning ouster of Mark Hurd this month.

The search will consider both internal and external candidates to helm the world's largest technology company by revenue.

A number of names have already been floated by analysts as candidates for HP's top job, though the company said it will not comment on the process or potential successors.

Wall Street is evaluating the impact of this week's musical chairs at Intel Corp. Sean Maloney, who has headed sales and marketing and is considered a likely successor to current CEO Paul Otellini, is taking on the added role of Intel's chief sales and marketing officer. He had previously co-managed the company's mobility Group.
