Steve Haber

Sears Holdings announced Thursday that it has named Steve Haber its new senior vice president and president of Home Appliances.

Haber comes to the company after a long association with Sony, where he was most recently executive vice president of Sony Electronics' Consumer Product Group.

Sears Holdings Corp. has named a former Sony Electronics executive to head its home appliances division.

The Hoffman Estates-based retailer, which runs Kmart and Sears stores, said Thursday that Steve Haber will serve as senior vice president and president of the home appliances unit. In leading the division, Haber will look to continue driving the unit's profits higher.

He replaces Dev Mukherjee, who resigned from the post earlier this month.

On Wednesday Sony will introduce a new line of e-readers and applications for iPhones and Android phones. Sony has updated each of its three e-readers. The Reader Pocket Edition, with its five-inch screen, weighs less than many of its competitors. The Reader Touch Edition has a six-inch screen and the Reader Daily Edition is the biggest of the bunch at seven inches. "Consistently the number-one thing we heard was it needs to feel like a book, so you just forget that you have a device in your hand," said Steve Haber, president of Sony's digital reading division.

Sony said this week that it will change its e-book store to the EPUB format by year's end. The format is used by the Sony Reader book-reading device.
