Amazon Steps Up War On Stores
Look out retailers, Amazon is ratcheting up the war on brick and mortar stores.
The Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) is fuming about the fact that Amazon is still able to uncut brick and mortar retailers because Amazon doesn't have to collect state sales tax, but that's a whole discussion right there.
Still, some retailers are trying to fight back. If we head over to Australia, a camera store in Sydney is charging shoppers a $30 "explanation fee" for checking out some of their high-end products in the store.
As a shopper, that seems a little steep, but if a small store hires a quality, knowledgeable sales person, then that investment needs to be protected. Refunding the fee if the customer makes a purchase in-store could make it much more palatable.
If the Amazon Price Check app promotion does well, I wonder what other retailers will do to fight back.
There are a lot of issues here, let me know what you think.
