DS Index: Q1 2017 Report
Dealerscope along with our parent company NAPCO Media and its NAPCO Research arm worked together to build a tool that we believe fills a white space in the consumer electronics retailing industry. There are plenty of other programs out there that measure consumer confidence in the CE space and the economy in general. But, to this point, there hasn’t been much of a focus on you—the retailer.
The DS Index is derived by surveying a panel of Dealerscope CE retailers on a monthly basis. We ask questions that get at their overall confidence in reaching their sales goals in the upcoming month. The survey also asks respondents to indicate their sales confidence across product types (e.g. TV vs. video game consoles etc.), confidence in their ability to drive both digital and foot traffic, and more. The responses are then plugged into a proprietary scoring algorithm that weights each factor based on market significance and outputs an overall confidence score.
And this brings us to this whitepaper, our first quarterly DS Index report. As the months flip, we find it imperative to look back at the past few months of data, collect our thoughts, learn from what we’ve gathered, and help project out what we expect to happen in the coming months, quarters, and years.
