DS Index: Q3 2017 Report
For our third quarterly DS Index report, we continue looking at the data collected through a wide lens as we try to anticipate coming trends in retail confidence. But throughout this quarter, we took some steps to try to break out the various aspects of the DS Index by store type. So, for example, how confident were Big Box stores this quarter compared to Independent retailers? And how did each segment impact the DS Index as a whole?
We’re continuing to find new ways to push the Dealerscope CE Retailer Confidence Index.
For Q3 2017, some of the areas we cover include:
- By-product confidence levels
- The impact of store size on confidence level (big box vs. independent vs. regional vs. ecommerce)
- How CE retailers performed against their sales goals
- Analysis of foot traffic vs. online traffic confidence levels
- Q4 confidence forecast
To put it rather bluntly, the third quarter was a terrible one for consumer electronics retailers. Coming into Q2, CE retailers’ confidence was already starting to drag downward as we approached the slow summer months. That drop continued, and actually sped up, throughout Q3. But the quarter ended on a somewhat positive note as we start looking ahead to the fast-approaching holiday shopping season.
