New York-area distributor Fesco opened its two-day annual product show Oct. 19, holding the event for the second year at CitiField, home of baseball’s New York Mets.
Director of sales and marketing David Goldstein reported that all told, 650 accounts and around 1,500 people were signed up to attend the event and take advantage of 270 separate “show specials” from 42 vendors. The expo also featured product giveaways and entertainment.
“All those numbers are up from 2009,” said Goldstein, adding that the company, which primarily serves independent dealers throughout the New York-New Jersey-Pennsylvania region, recently expanded its market reach into the food/drug/travel channels.
Products and vendors that Fesco has added since last year include iHome, Zipkord’s retractable earbud and charger lines, RCA’s audio line, and e-reader supplier Ectaco.
“We’re always adding more SKUs,” said Goldstein. Hot product categories he cited were LED TV, 3D TV, MP3 devices, e-readers, iPad cases and iPod/iPhone/iPad speaker docks. “Headphones are big business” all across the pricing spectrum, he added.
Goldstein said that his company had weathered the economic downturn well – and that business had been especially encouraging in the months since mid-summer. “Every 20 years or so, the industry goes through a bubble, so it’s nothing new,” he added.
